For the next installment of EIGHTY's dinner-fundraiser series, we're bring Issue 2 to life with a kamayan-style meal featuring Filipino dishes prepared by our families. If you've read the cover story from Issue 2, you know that Filipino food is a big deal to us at EIGHTY. We want to share that passion for our homeland's cuisine the only way we would want to: by eating it like we do at home. Like our previous events, the evening is all about celebrating fabulous food; but this one is super special, and there are some key things to take note of before you purchase your tickets:
• It is a BYOB event. We repeat, BYOB. We provide the cups, you bring your booze of choice.
• Kamayan literally means eating with your hands. There will be wet wipes but not forks, spoons or knives — use your teeth!
• A kamayan is a traditional family and communal-style meal in the Philippines. There will be no individual portions served. You must be very comfortable sharing with strangers. If not, we recommend buying tickets in groups so that we can try to seat your party together. However, we can't make any promises except that it'll be a lot of fun. Look at the picture above. Don't they look like they're all having a great time?
• Here's the big one: We can't accommodate any dietary requests. We want to make sure that the meal you're having that night is as close to the kinds of Filipino flavors we at EIGHTY love. We want you to really get to know Filipino food. So we're allowing our families to prepare these dishes the way they always do.
It may sound like there's a lot of going on that night, but we assure you that it's going to be a grand old time. See you there!
